2016-2017 Curriculum
This
year's curriculum allows for varied scaffolding and
extension opportunities for first and second graders at all levels. This curriculum is based upon the guidelines set forth by the Common Core State
Standards, the Next Generation Science Standards, the WCSU Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), and the Vermont Framework of Learning.
Here is the abridged version of our social
studies, science and writing units:
September: Social Citizenship and Responsive Classroom; Writing mechanics and
Handwriting; Sentence Structure and Parts of Speech; Personal History (All About Me ABC)
October/November/December: Waves: Light and Sound; Story Structures;
Personal Narrative/Small Moment Stories; Personal History (life timelines)
January/February: Earth’s Place in the Universe (focus on moon,
sun, and stars); Writing Star Myths; Opinion Paragraphs; Mapping; Identifying Feelings & Self-Regulation
March/April/May/June: Sugaring; Informative Writing/Report writing; Class Plays; Structures & Processes and
Interdependence in Ecosystems -- Plants; Heredity and Variation of Traits in plants and animals
