Highlights of the Week

Hello families,

By the end of our week we had many students with colds, sore throats, and coughs. Try to get plenty of rest this weekend and stay hydrated to combat whatever is going around our school! Nevertheless, we had a great week together.

On Tuesday we presented our science models to Ben's class. To see plentiful pictures from this event see the post below this one. They did an amazing job learning about the different landforms and bodies of water, depicting them in their models, and telling about them during presentations.

Tuesday afternoon laughter roared from our classroom (I'm told you could even hear us laughing outside!) as we watched our own Mischievous Monkeys circus act. The link to the video is now up on the blog (check it out, it's two posts below this one along with many photos)!

We began to read nonfiction articles about animals this week. We read one all together on Monday about sloths. Then together we filled out a graphic organizer showing what we learned about what sloths: have, can, eat, are, and where they live. On Tuesday partners read articles together and then filled out the same graphic organizer together about the new animal they read about. We'll continue this work in the coming weeks as we begin our unit on animals and their habitats!

On Thursday we reflected on our 128 days in school to think about all we have learned this school year. Students then wrote "two stars and a wish" for themselves, highlighting achievements they are proud of and one more thing they'd like to learn or improve for themselves. I'll share these with you next week at parent/teacher conferences! (If you haven't yet signed up, there are still some open slots. Click on this link, then my name, to see what's still available.)

Our class is loving our new chapter book, Clementine by Sara Pennypacker. Clementine always means well but sometimes gets into trouble without really understanding why. Ask your child how they would describe Clementine.

Please continue to check the weather forecast each day and send your child in with appropriate outdoor clothes and boots as well as clean indoor shoes. Until it's completely dry outside we need boots on the playground!
